#5

Ascot Vale, Victoria
2007

A typical Californian Bungalow in inner suburban Melbourne with a typical family dilemma; a growing family with more planned!

In lieu of introducing a second storey, the approach* for #5 involved an extensive renovation of the original house and then invigorate the space available in the underutilised back yard.

The end result was a four bedroom house with a private, northern orientated garden, undercover external space and alternate private or open spaces for all. The transparent wall allowed the parents inside to monitor anyone arriving to play at the “house in the street for all”.

*typically, original building stock is ruined by the ‘humping turtle approach’
