A renovation on the “worst house in the street”

This house was broken but due to budget constraints there was not intention of clearing the site and starting again. Rather than fighting the structure the process involved a refit and reuse approach;

_the ceiling to the main space was upholstered in silver and black shade cloth rather than straightened for plaster

_the existing walnut veneered panels were revitalised and reworked into a major joinery component running the entire length of the house,

_the walls and ceiling of the bathroom were lined in cement sheeting (no tiles) and the vanity hung on recycled timbers,

_the pergola in the rear yard is constructed with scaffold pipework with safety barrier cloth as a shading device.

The clients are designed oriented and highly supportive of the act of making.

The house is hand made.
