#14

Thornbury, Victoria
2017 - ongoing

The existing timber cottage is falling down. Its neighbours have all changed and now #14 has a chance. A very young family caught with planning regulations, precedents, financial constraints and a particular block of land that is, particular.

At 5 metres wide and 49 metres long it may demand to stretch, to relax and occupy.

Conversely the will is to fight the temptations - keep it small, keep it intimate.

The clients have no concerns of doing so yet when logic suggests that two levels over a smaller footprint is a better outcome than low and vast, one can imagine the response from the powers at be.

The final direction for the design of #14 has yet to truly take hold. It is fighting for territory after everyone else has had their go. So little room for negotiation and yet with clients like these compromise will not be accepted.
